An AI agent for Jira tickets
An AI agent for Jira tickets reads your issues and does the chasing around them: it checks that a new ticket has what the team needs, spots issues stuck in one status and drafts the sprint summary. In FrugalPod this is a custom agent. It connects read-only by default, and by default any change to an issue waits for a person to approve it.
- FrugalPod custom agents can work with Jira alongside your other tools.
- Typical jobs are checking new tickets, chasing stale ones and drafting sprint notes.
- The connection is read-only by default, so an agent cannot edit or transition an issue unless you allow it.
- Changes to records and messages wait for approval by default.
- Every action is logged, and you can revoke the connection at any time.
What FrugalPod agents do in Jira
| Task | Agent | Waits for your approval |
|---|---|---|
| Read each new issue and check it has a clear description, steps to reproduce and an owner | Custom agent | Commenting on the issue or asking the reporter for more |
| Propose a project, priority or label for an unsorted issue, using rules you set | Custom agent | Writing the change to the issue |
| List issues that have sat in In Progress or Waiting for a long time, with the last update on each | Custom agent | Any nudge sent to the assignee |
| Draft sprint notes: what was finished, what carried over and what was added mid-sprint | Custom agent | Posting the notes where the team will see them |
| Spot likely duplicate issues and suggest which to link or close | Custom agent | Linking or closing any issue |
| Prepare a short weekly summary of open issues by project for a manager | Custom agent | Sending the summary |

How access to Jira works
Connecting Jira starts read-only, with the narrowest permissions an agent needs. Reading an issue is a different permission from commenting on it, moving it between statuses or assigning it, and you decide per agent whether it may change anything. Comments, transitions and messages wait for approval in the FrugalPod app or in Slack, and routine categories only go through on their own if you choose that later. You can revoke the connection at any time. Every action is recorded in the activity log. See the security page.
Getting started with Jira
- Create a free FrugalPod account. It starts with 100 free credits and no card is needed.
- Describe the job in plain words, such as: every morning, list issues that have not moved in a week and say who owns them.
- Connect Jira and keep it read-only at first, so the agent reads issues without changing them.
- Set the rules: which projects it covers, what a complete ticket looks like and what must always go to a person.
- Test it on last month’s issues and last sprint, read what it would have proposed, then go live with approvals on.

How does FrugalPod work with Jira?
Jira is built for tracking work, and it has its own automation rules and AI features that suit many jobs inside Jira. A FrugalPod custom agent fits the jobs that need judgement across tools, such as reading a support ticket, checking whether the issue exists in Jira and asking a person in Slack before anything is filed. Custom agents are used by IT, product and project management teams. You describe the job in plain words, set the rules and test on last month’s work. Nothing is changed without approval by default.

Can an agent change my Jira issues without approval?
Not by default. The connection is read-only, and comments, status changes and assignments wait for a person to approve them. Later you can choose to let a routine category go through, but that is your decision.
How is this different from Jira automation rules or Atlassian’s AI?
Jira’s automation and Atlassian’s AI work well inside Atlassian tools, and they may be all a small team needs. A custom agent is for work that needs reading and judgement, follows rules you write in plain words and reaches into other tools.
Can it write the sprint report for me?
It can draft one from the issues in a sprint. A person should read it before it goes out, and by default the agent waits for your approval before posting it anywhere.
Does this suit a team without a dedicated project manager?
It can. A small team can describe a repeat job, such as chasing stale tickets every Monday, and have the agent prepare it for someone to approve. Check the first few weeks of results against how your team really works.
What does it cost?
FrugalPod charges by the work agents do, in credits where 1 credit is 1 cent. You can start free with 100 credits and no card, pay as you go at $1 per 100 credits, or choose Starter at $19 a month or Pro at $49 a month. See pricing.
