How access to Gusto works
When you connect Gusto, FrugalPod asks for the narrowest permissions each agent needs, and the connection starts read-only. You decide, agent by agent, whether it may change anything. Even then, changes to records and messages to people wait for approval in the FrugalPod app or in Slack, until you choose to let a routine category go through on its own. You can revoke the connection at any time. Employee data is encrypted in transit and at rest and is never used to train FrugalPod’s models or its AI providers’ models. The FrugalPod security page explains how access, approvals and the activity log work.
Getting started with Gusto
- Create a free FrugalPod account. It starts with 100 free credits and no card is needed.
- Connect Gusto and choose which HR agents may use it. The connection is read-only to begin with.
- Write down your onboarding steps and handbook rules in plain words, so the Onboarding guide has your policy to work from.
- Run the agent on a recent hire’s file and compare its checklist and answers with what actually happened.
- Approve what is right, correct what isn’t, and decide later which routine reminders may go out without asking.

How does AI onboarding with Gusto work in FrugalPod?
Gusto handles payroll, benefits and employee records, but the rest of a first week is chasing: has the laptop arrived, is the paperwork back, does the new hire know where to park. FrugalPod’s HR pod takes that chasing. The Onboarding guide keeps the checklist moving and answers routine policy questions, and nothing goes out until you approve it. You pay for the work agents do, not per seat, so every manager can review and approve on any plan. For fair screening, see how to screen resumes fairly.

Common questions
Something missing? Write to admin@frugalpod.com and a person will reply.
Does FrugalPod replace Gusto?
No. Gusto remains where payroll and employee records live. FrugalPod’s agents work around it: they run the onboarding checklist, answer routine policy questions and schedule interviews. You keep making the decisions, and anything that changes a record or reaches a person waits for your approval.
Will an agent change a new hire’s record in Gusto without asking?
No. The connection is read-only by default. If you allow an agent to change anything, each change still waits for your approval in the FrugalPod app or in Slack, unless you later decide that a routine kind of change may go through on its own.
Can the agent run payroll or set pay?
Pay, tax and payroll decisions should stay with you and your payroll or tax advisor, since rules vary by location. The Onboarding guide is built for checklists, reminders and policy questions. Anything that touches money waits for human approval.
How is my employees’ data protected?
Data is encrypted in transit with TLS 1.2 or higher and at rest with AES-256. It is never used to train FrugalPod’s models or its AI providers’ models. You can export your data at any time, and deletion completes within 30 days, backups included.
What does it cost?
FrugalPod charges by the work agents do, in credits where 1 credit is 1 cent. You can start free with 100 credits, pay as you go at $1 per 100 credits, or choose Starter at $19 a month or Pro at $49 a month. Every plan includes every integration. See pricing.
